2K Games has announced another downloadable content pack for BioShock 2, and this one focuses on single-player challenges. The Protector Trials DLC is due out on August 3 for 400 Microsoft Points or $4.99. Players had to protect the Little Sisters from Splicers during the natural course of the game, and this pack seems to deliver on more of that brand of action. The new missions contain six new maps based on stages from BioShock 2, unlockables like concept art and videos, and new Achievements/Trophies. 2K promises that more downloadable content will be on the way “in the coming months.”
“The team at 2K Marin has been working hard ever since the launch of BioShock 2 to develop ways for gamers to extend their time in the single-player world of Rapture,” said 2K president Christoph Hartmann in the press release. “I’m proud to announce the first of these experiences, the Protector Trials, which takes players back to some of their favorite places form the original game and features some of the biggest challenges that fans of the series have ever experienced. This is just the beginning.”
2K Marin’s last piece of downloadable content, the Sinclair Solutions Test Pack, ran into some controversy when the small download size revealed that the content was already present on the disc. Players discovered they were merely paying for an unlock code. Though a representative of the company defended the move as an effort to maintain a consistent player base without splitting between haves and have-nots, fans felt put off. This content, released so far after the game, probably isn’t on the disc — and the player base rationale wouldn’t make sense anyway.
