Plants vs. Zombies for iPad Leaked

Monday, March 29th, 2010

PopCap has said that they’re interested in supporting the iPad, and now that interest may be coming to fruition. PadGadget has noticed a few unannounced iPad launch games among the iTunes App Store listings, including Plants vs. Zombies HD.

The new HD Plants vs. Zombies is included with several other titles, including Worms HD and Labyrinth 2 HD. Apple has since removed the listings from the iTunes Preview site.

Assuming Plants vs. Zombies wasn’t just a glitch in the system, it should be one of the launch games when the iPad arrives next month. It’s also available on Steam and the iPhone.

L4D2 "Passing" DLC Pushed Back, Priced at $7

Left 4 Dead 2

So we all know Left 4 Dead 2 will soon get new DLC called “The Passing” that’ll reunite the first game’s and second game’s survivors, and some of us even know the spoiler-ish details of why it’s called “The Passing.” Now how about when it’ll be released and how much it’ll cost on the Xbox 360? The answers: Some time in spring, and 560 Microsoft Points ($7).

These details come by way of a U.K. Xbox Live promotional program that’s been uploaded on YouTube (via Kotaku). The hosts explain that while The Passing was originally scheduled to be released before the end of March, that’s not longer the case — Valve has pushed it back to a vague “spring” release, with no specific date set. However, as mentioned above, there is a specific price of 560 Microsoft Points for the 360 version of the DLC.

Additionally, the video reveals some new weapons that’ll be introduced in The Passing. These include an M60 heavy machine gun (a “specialty weapon” that you can’t reload), and a golf club that can be used as a melee weapon.

EA Considering Dead Space: Extraction Port for Xbox 360, PS3

Dead Space: Extraction

PAX East 10 is taking place in Boston this weekend, and Electronic Arts and Visceral Games were in attendance with a particularly newsworthy panel for Dead Space 2 earlier today — where they revealed there may eventually be a port of the Wii spin-off Dead Space: Extraction for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

During the questions and answers segment of the panel, someone asked whether Extraction would ever be released on other platforms. According to IGN, the panel didn’t answer the question directly, but did say to “keep your ears peeled” — clearly suggesting it is a possibility.

Of course, since it was a Dead Space 2 panel, there were a few new details revealed about that game, too: A brief video was shown that revealed how main character Issac Clarke’s new suit allows for what sounds like very Iron Man-like flight, using thrusters in the boots and gloves (the video apparently showed Clarke flying from one train car to another that was separated by a large distance on the track).

Skate 3 Demo Coming to XBL, PSN on April 15

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Skate 3

Skate 3 is set for release on May 11, but if you want to get some hands-on skate time with Electronic Arts’ sequel before then, you’re in luck: EA has announced a demo will be released on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network on April 15 (via Joystiq).

Of course, April 15 is also tax day (everyone’s favorite!), and surely this is a correlation that did not go unnoticed by EA. After all, what better way to spend tax day than totally sticking it to the man by shredding and busting mad ollies and other kind of rebellious sounding stuff in a skateboarding videogame?

For more on Skate 3, be sure to check out our recent preview, and see the full roster of pro-skaters that’ll be in the game here.

Heavy Rain Will Get PlayStation Move Support

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Heavy Rain

Creator David Cage hinted at it last month, and now it’s official: Heavy Rain will get support for the PlayStation Move motion controller.

The confirmation comes by way of Belgian gaming magazine Chief (via Gamer.nl), which reports that Heavy Rain will indeed get Move support. It looks like there weren’t many other details (or at least they weren’t relayed), so it’s unclear how soon the support will come after the controller’s release this fall.

Adding Move support to Heavy Rain certainly makes sense: Basically all of the Dual Shock 3 controls in the game are already designed to mimic the motions of the characters on-screen, from knock-down, drag-out fights to movements as simple as opening a car door. In fact, when hinting at the potential of adding motion controls last month, Cage also revealed Heavy Rain was originally planned as a motion-control game from the start.

Resistance 3 Shows Up (Oddly) On a Sony Survey

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Resistance 3 survey

If — and probably when — Resistance 3 is eventually released, we’ll all be able to look back and reflect that it had one of the weirdest rollouts in gaming history. First the game was sort-of unofficially announced by way of an unauthorized photograph of a fake billboard on a movie set, and now a Sony survey asks gamers whether they think it even exists.

Joystiq picked up on the survey, and the couple of questions it asks about Resistance 3 are rather puzzling. First it asks, “Do you think that there is a future version of Resistance, Resistance 3, being developed?” — which almost seems like a questioned designed to measure how many news blogs gamers read rather than anything actually having to do with Resistance 3. The follow up question then asks how likely they’d be to purchase it, which is also odd considering the game is basically a forgone conclusion at this point anyway.

In addition to the fake billboard spotted last year, there was also a recent rumor that Sony may be announcing Resistance 3 along with Killzone 3 and Infamous 2 at E3 this year. So add up all the evidence thus far, and yes, Sony, we’d have to say we kind of do think there is a future version of Resistance being developed.

The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile Is As Brutal As Its Predecessor

Monday, March 29th, 2010

In the midst of all the chaos named PAX East, I found an outlet for all my nerd rage in Dishwasher: Vampire Smile. The edgy art, the gore, and the over-the-top finishes helped me find a reason to smirk today on the show floor. In a convention with little room to stretch your arms, I was fortunate enough to play the demos for the Dishwasher and his sibling. Vampire Smile utilizes a whole new engine, and features two campaigns — one for each playable character.

The Dishwasher’s moves and the scenarios he finds himself in are still intact from the games’ predecessor — and so is the difficulty. When I was playing on normal difficulty, I probably died the most in his particular demo (where I’m on a construction elevator going up, while also fighting non-stop waves of enemies) because of the unexpected elements that appeared. Though, Dishwasher comes equipped for such gruesome bloodshed with two new weapons: the violence hammer that is covered in barbed wire, and the guillotine that looks like a large pair of scissors — expect a lot of decapitations.

Purchased DSiWare Games Not Transferable to DSi XL

Monday, March 29th, 2010

DSi XL

Nintendo’s DSi XL launches in North America tomorrow, but if you plan on picking one up, here’s a note of warning: If you also own a DSi, any DSiWare games you bought for it won’t transfer to your new DSi XL — you’ll have to re-purchase them on the XL in order to play them on it.

A Nintendo spokesperson confirmed this limitation to Kotaku, saying that although they’re “looking into that specific topic” it terms of finding a workaround, they “don’t have anything to announce at this time.” The problem essentially stems from the fact that Nintendo doesn’t have any kind of persistent account that can be transferred or logged into on various hardware, meaning there’s no way a gamer’s new DSi XL could “know” whether they’ve already purchased any DSiWare games.

Hopefully Nintendo will indeed figure out a fix to this limitation eventually, but for now the result is they’re forcing games to purchase games twice to be able to play them on their new handheld — obviously not an ideal situation for consumers. And even though they’ve already announced it’ll be backwards compatible with cartridge-based DS games, you have to wonder — will the same be true with DSiWare games when the Nintendo 3DS releases as well?
