Fix Coming for Modern Warfare 2 Javelin Multiplayer Glitch

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2

In the course of playing some online multiplayer in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, you may have come across some players abusing some of the game’s grenade/rocket/missile launchers. Without going into great detail about how exactly to do it (as anyone caught exploiting the glitch will be suspended on Xbox Live; plus we don’t want to encourage cheaters), the glitch allows players to move around the map while sprinting, knifing, or jumping while being ready to immediately explode upon dying. Combine the explosion from a weapon like a Javelin — which normally takes a fairly good amount of time to actually attack an enemy — with perks that allow you to run indefinitely and increase explosive weapon damage, and it’s easy to see how this could become extremely annoying, not to mention unfair, to the opposing team. Despite the name, the glitch works with all of the launchers in the game, but the Javelin seems to be what’s used most often.

Infinity Ward’s Robert Bowling delivered some good news about the situation on Twitter today, writing, “Javelin Glitch fix currently in test. Once it’s cleared, we’ll be urging it through Microsoft & Sony certification as fast as possible.” He later noted that the PC version of the game will also receive the update, but thanks to not needing to go through the respective console manufacturer’s certification process, the update will go live as soon as testing on it is complete.

As noted above, players caught using the glitch will be suspended, according to Xbox Live’s director of policy and enforcement, Stephen Toulouse. That might not guarantee every cheater is caught between now and the time the patch goes live, but it should help to dissuade some of the potential abusers from griefing the rest of the MW2 community.
